In the midst of Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover, a fiery feud has erupted with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). ADL claims that Twitter (let’s stick with calling it X) has become a breeding ground for hate speech, while X insists they’re putting the clampdown on it. To emphasize their stance against antisemitism, X recently released an official statement.

According to X:

“Our stellar X teams always have their ears to the ground, listening to user feedback and maintaining an open dialogue with external organizations. We firmly believe in balancing free expression with platform safety. We’re committed to combatting hatred, prejudice, and intolerance, particularly against marginalized groups. This means taking action on content that breaks our rules.”

X boasts that they’ve bolstered their “Violent & Hateful Entities” policy and tightened rules on violent speech. They’re also actively adding new slurs and harmful terms to their guidelines to keep up with evolving language targeting protected groups, including the Jewish community.

“In the fight against antisemitism, we’re in it for the long haul. We’re training our teams, collaborating with partners and users, and making substantial investments.”

But here’s the kicker: X hasn’t provided detailed data to support their claims, leaving the debate unresolved. X’s U.S. ad revenue has plummeted by 60%, although Musk argues that things are looking up in Asian markets. Despite diversifying income sources with subscriptions and higher-priced API access, most of X’s ad revenue still comes from U.S. businesses. Given Musk’s tiff with the ADL, advertisers remain cautious, waiting for the full picture.

So, X, why not lay the cards on the table and share that data? It’s the missing puzzle piece in this sizzling Twitter showdown.
