Snapchat Amplifies Its AI Capabilities for Plus Subscribers

Snapchat has recently expanded its array of generative AI features, now offering Snapchat Plus subscribers the ability to create customised images using text prompts.

This latest addition enhances the user experience, allowing for a more creative and personalised form of communication.

Subscribers to Snapchat’s premium service, priced at $3.99, can access this novel feature by selecting the “AI” button situated on the right side of the camera interface. This action reveals a window where users can either enter their own text prompt or select from a variety of pre-set themes, such as “a futuristic disco” or “a rocket preparing for liftoff.”

Following the submission of a prompt, Snapchat’s AI technology generates an image that users can further personalise with edits and messages before sharing with friends and family on the app. Snapchat is not stopping here. It’s also introducing other AI-driven benefits for its subscribers, like an innovative feature that creates the illusion of distance in photographs. This is achieved by using AI to extend the background, making the subject appear further from the camera. Users can test this feature by capturing a close-up photo, selecting the “crop” icon, and then choosing “extend.”

Another fresh addition is the enhancement of “Dreams,” Snapchat’s AI selfie tool. It now allows photos with friends to be transformed according to specific themes. Plus subscribers are given access to one complimentary pack of eight Dreams themes monthly. These advancements are part of a broader wave of AI integrations Snapchat has been implementing over the year, including the introduction of an AI chatbot in April and enabling developers to create filters integrated with ChatGPT.
